The Video Game Industry’s Biggest Year-End Celebration Continues to Increase Viewership for 10th Year in a Row, Up 15% Over 2022 Show

LOS ANGELES — Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023 — The Game Awards, the video game industry’s year-end celebration, today announced its 10th annual show on December 7, 2023 broke viewership records with an estimated 118 million global livestreams, up 15% over 2022’s record-setting showcase.

Through its streaming-native, no friction approach to global distribution, The Game Awards delivered over 118 million live streams across a multitude of digital networks, including YouTube, Twitch, Steam, Facebook, TikTok Live, X, WeChat, Bilibili, Huya, DouYu, Xiaohongshu and Instagram Live. In addition, more than 17,000 individual content creators and online influencers co-streamed the show to their audiences.

On YouTube, the 4K TGA feed delivered a 53% jump in YoY peak concurrently to over 900K. Platform-wide (including co-streams), TGA on YouTube was up 35% to over 1.7M peak concurrent. 4,000 channels co-streamed the show on YouTube.

On Twitch, co-streaming was up 24% YoY, with over 13,680 creators co-streaming the show. Peak concurrent audience on Twitch hit 1.94M, with total live watch time up 10% YoY. The new “Twitch Predicts The Game Awards” extension reached nearly 4 million views with a peak audience of 330K.

This year at the show, Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 won a total of six awards, including Game of the Year. Remedy Entertainment and Epic Games Publishing’s Alan Wake 2, took home three awards including Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction. The show featured performances by The Game Awards Orchestra conducted by BAFTA and Emmy nominated composer Lorne Balfe, celebrating the leading innovators in interactive entertainment.

With appearances from Anthony Mackie, Ed Boon, Hideo Kojima, Jordan Peele, Matthew McConaughey, Simu Liu, Timothée Chalamet, Vince Zampella, Caroline Marchal, Zedd, and the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout Aaron Moten, Ella Purnell, and Walton Goggins, plus spectacular musical numbers by Heilung, Poets of the Fall and Loren Allred, The Game Awards once again brought together the industry for a one-of-a-kind night of celebrations. The Game Awards Orchestra’s “Game of the Year” medley, composed by Lorne Balfe, featured music from this year’s diverse slate of Game of the Year nominees including, Alan Wake 2 (Remedy Entertainment/Epic Games Publishing), Baldur’s Gate 3 (Larian Studios), Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (Insomniac Games/SIE), Resident Evil 4 (Capcom), Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo EPD/Nintendo) and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo EPD/Nintendo).

The Game Awards gave fans a glimpse at what’s next in gaming and entertainment with world premieres of upcoming projects, including Exodus (Archetype Entertainment), Big Walk (House House), Marvel’s Blade (Arkane Lyon/Bethesda), God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla (Santa Monica Studio and Sony Interactive Entertainment), Monster Hunter Wilds (Capcom), Light No Fire (Hello Games), OD (Kojima Productions/Xbox Game Studios), and Tales of Kenzera: ZAU (Surgent Studios and EA Originals) and many more.
